چکیده

We report the detection of radio emission coincident with the ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) in Holmberg II. The radio emission is diffuse and resolved, covering an area ∼ 60 × 40 pc in extent and well-matched to the recently discovered He ii nebula surrounding the X-ray source. Comparison of the radio and optical properties of this extended radio emission argue against its association with either an H ii region or supernova remnant. This is additional evidence that this ULX is not powered by a stellar-mass object whose emission is relativistically beamed towards the observer, and thus is either a super-Eddington source or intermediate mass black hole as suggested by optical observations. Implications of this result to future and existing radio studies of ULXs are discussed. Subject headings: galaxies: individual (Holmberg II) – stars: individual (Holmberg II X-1) – X-rays: galaxies – radio continuum: galaxies

The evolution of a jet ejection of the ultraluminous X-ray source Holmberg II X-1

We present quasi-simultaneous, multi-epoch radio and X-ray measurements of Holmberg II X-1 using the European VLBI Network (EVN), the Karl G. Jansky Very Large Array (VLA), and the Chandra and Swift X-ray telescopes. The X-ray data show apparently hard spectra with steady X-ray luminosities 4 months apart from each other. In the high-resolution EVN radio observations, we have detected an extend...

Unveiling recurrent jets of the ULX Holmberg II X-1: evidence for a massive stellar-mass black hole?

We report on the discovery of an apparent triple radio structure hidden inside the radio bubble of the ultraluminous X-ray source Holmberg II X-1. The morphology is consistent with a collimated jet structure, which is observed to emit optically thin synchrotron radiation. The central component has a steep radio spectrum and is brighter than the outer components indicating a renewed radio activi...

First Detection of Mid-infrared Variability from an Ultraluminous X-Ray Source Holmberg II X-1

We present mid-infrared (IR) light curves of the Ultraluminous X-ray Source (ULX) Holmberg II X-1 from observations taken between 2014 January 13 and 2017 January 5 with the Spitzer Space Telescope at 3.6 and 4.5 μm in the Spitzer Infrared Intensive Transients Survey. The mid-IR light curves, which reveal the first detection of mid-IR variability from a ULX, is determined to arise primarily fro...

Optical Counterparts of Ultraluminous X-ray Sources

Despite much observational and theoretical effort little is presently known about the nature of the luminous nonnuclear X-ray sources which appear to largely surpass the Eddington limit of a few solar masses. Here we present first results of our OHP/ESO/CFHT optical survey of the environments of variable ultraluminous X-ray sources (ULX) in nearby galaxies. At the position of several ULX we fin...

Nustar, Xmm-newton, and Suzaku Observations of the Ultraluminous X-ray Source Holmberg Ii X-1

We present the first broadband 0.3–25.0 keV X-ray observations of the bright ultraluminous X-ray source (ULX) Holmberg II X-1, performed by NuSTAR, XMM-Newton, and Suzaku in 2013 September. The NuSTAR data provide the first observations of Holmberg II X-1 above 10 keV and reveal a very steep high-energy spectrum, similar to other ULXs observed by NuSTAR to date. These observations further demon...
